Find Care & Housing
Wait a minute, if she wants to go there and the facility has approved her, I tend to think there is a need. So let her go. You are not responsible for her bills. In some states, Medicaid will pay after she spends her money down. Respect her choices.

I didn't sign anything. I'm out of state and some busy body took it upon herself to influence my mother in this decision. She took her to this place she fell in love with but is totally out of her financial capabilities for more than a short time. I asked my mother to slow down- let's figure everything out. Weigh the pros and cons. Think of other avenues such as a home companion, having me take over paying her monthly bills etc.
Mind you my mother is fully capable of her own care at this point. I was just there at Christmas and saw with my own eyes and I call her daily.
She told me yeah lets just put everything on hold for now. That busy buddy was calling while we were talking and I said make her wait and when you call her back tell her I can't stand her and that she puts disturbing thoughts in her head.
Today I called the place to find out more about it and I found out she had an appt. this evening to pick her room! I was too ashamed to say I didn't know.
Wait until I call her tomorrow!

overwhemedsigh, if you had signed the admission papers for whomever is in Assisted Living, as "Overwhemedsigh, POA for Mom or Dad", you should be ok and not responsible for the AL monthly bills.

In my geographic area, most Assisted living facilities do not accept medicaid. They were very clear upon admission that my Mom would have to move out if she ran out of money. There was one AL that would take medicaid after 2 full years of private pay. They cost more as well.
Go back and check the admission paperwork or ask the director. Be prepared, you may have to apply for medicaid and move your parent out. If funds are running low, check all possible outlets --- Veterans assistance for example. Good luck

If you signed the admission papers, yes you can. Look over everything you signed.
