Been a caregiver to my husband suffering from Alzheimer's for the past 8 years. Have not been able to vacation since 2005. Also, he has difficulty walking. Would love to visit family out-of-state, but husband cannot travel. Is there facilities where I can leave him for a week or two. And, any suggestions to get him there would be appreciated. He is stubborn, controlling and in denial. I feel trapped. His doctor is absolutely non supportive and no help. Thank you.
Best of luck with your search,
Carol
In my case mom went for two weeks a couple of years ago. It wasn't hard to get her there, told her she was going on vacation. This worked fine for getting her there, but once there she, naturally wanted to go home. If Mom had made a better adjustment we probably would have left her at the facility. Also realize that there may be a sudden decline if taking him out of his own environment. How do you think an in home caregiver would work?then you wouldn't need to move him.
