My Dad is in a senior group home since he, went through 100 days of therapy and he still cannot walk. At 88 years old he doesn't understand he needs 24 hour care he's in diapers has dementia blood clotting disease using a cathertor for a while he thinks the place he's in is just for more therapy he keeps getting pneumonia he has his own room home cooked meals living room pets to visit 24 hour care it's better then home at this point he thinks that when he gets to walking again he can go home. How expensive is guardianship. I'm his daughter with POA.
How advanced is his dementia. It sounds rather far gone to me, but what does the doctor say. Is the doctor suggesting nursing home placement. Can her afford that or does he need to find a place that will take medicaid and as his POA help get him on medicaid?
Guardianship is expensive $5,000 and requires two doctors to say the person is incompetent, plus it involves going to court. I never had to get guardianship. My durable and medical POA was enough. Are you his only child or do you have any siblings?
I wish you well in this journey. Please come back and let us know how things work out, vent as much as you need to and ask more questions as they come up.
