Mom, 90 in May, is sleeping more and more and eating less and less. She fell 4 years ago, fractured her neck and had a severe concussion. Her Dementia is getting worse as well. More delusional, more Sundowner's and unable to form sentences coherently some times.

Is this an indication of anything? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks all!

She sleeps off and on (2-3 hours at a time) all day long. Also falls asleep at night (between 8-10 PM) and sleeps 3-5 hours, gets up to use the bathroom and then back to sleep for another 3-5 hours. Will eat her oatmeal in the morning and then back to sleep. Try to feed her a small banana as a snack when she wakes up and she most often eats it all. She has no teeth, so everything has to be soft or cut into tiny pieces. Lunch can be soup or and/or small sandwich, but lately only eats a few bites. Sometimes she will eat all of a small dinner, sometimes not. I give her a nutrition shake in the morning and she loves donut holes , peanut butter cookies and cheesecake - always eats all of that!

Sandy, has your mom recently been checked for a UTI? Even if she is having no other symptoms, it can mimic or worsen dementia.

Yes, no UTI. Thanks!

Sleeping more and eating less is kind of open ended and it depends on your interpretation, my mom probably slept 18 hours a day and I struggled to get at least 1000 calories into her each day, and that went on for several years.
