I stopped just this week (I am home this week from work). Just worried about coming in and bringing COVID-19 into her home. I’m just not sure what to do at this point. She does already have COPD/heart issues but gets around her house pretty good. Thanks!

We are a shelter in place county and are taking things day by day. My eighty something Mom explained her fears and asked her once a week caregiver to wear a mask while working, just in case she is an asymptomatic carrier.
The theory is that masks reduce droplets, if any from a potential carrier. Note that these are masks she already had on hand, if you don't have any you could look into home made substitutes.
Also lots of hand washing and six feet of social distance when possible, e.g. laundry and food prep.
Hot food or foods to be cooked later feel safer.
Also she cranks up the HEPA air filter during visits and uses a zinc melt. Chicken soup or vitamin C if you prefer.

If she is OK without this help I think it is wise, as much as I hate the thought of this caregiver losing her job. This would be so tough. But the fact is that the fewer people coming in now, the better. Who will, however, be responsible to check on Mom. Is she alone at 94?

Sorry I haven’t checked in. I am not working now b/c I work at a college. I’ve been going over every couple of days with food, spend some time, etc. I spoke to Comfort Keepers this AM & they understand the situation. Thank you for your thoughts!

Can you call her more often, or do what others are doing and have a visit with a window or door between you? It is so tricky with the very vulnerable!

Thank you for your response. I call her many times a day. A neighbor knocked on her door to ask if she needed anything as well. I have already decided to stop caregiver as of now until this passes hopefully sooner rather than later! Stay safe everyone!
