My 89 yr old mother wears undergarments. Sitting for long periods of time with these garments may be developing some complications. The skin of her inner legs itch and are tender. In some cases they tear and bleed. I've tried various treatments. Any suggestions?
Thank you again!
Once Mom got to the nursing home, they alway use depends undergarments. She hated it at first but it's necessary if she can't get to the bathroom fast enough. She thinks they're actually comfy now and doesn't mind them at all. They also seem to absorb sweat and readily whick any liquid away from her skin.
Old skin is really sensitive so the nursing home also uses towlettes with moisturizing lotion built right in.
Also..if her garments are too big they can bunch up and aggravate her skin. Call her Doctor for some direction.
These are disposable undergarments. And after trying various brands the most comfortable for her. I have been trimming the edges that are next to the legs. Right now I have a pad better the pants and the area of the leg that is bleeding along with ointment.
I will probably gauze the area today after a thorough cleaning and also apply olive oil.
Thank you!
