I have not been able to work since I am the caregiver for my mother. Taking care of my mother is hard work (as you all know), but so very rewarding. She is my world. I just need income to help us get along. I am not able to contribute financially. Is there a way to receive income for being a caregiver for your elderly parent?
Your best bet is to see if your parents qualify for Medicaid... each State is different so it will be up to you to see what is available for them. Your State might even allow you to be your parent's caregiver but don't be surprised if the State says they will pay you for 3 hours per day when you are doing 8 hours of work. The pay would probably be minimum wage, minus payroll taxes.
By the way, a grown child should NOT be responsible for paying for a parents food, bills, medication, etc. Otherwise you won't have any money left to take of yourself when you get older.
