Hello all. I am curious what private pay memory care costs in your area or state? The state I live in averages about $4500 a month. Where I live is expensive and a top rated place in the area at $6500. I am trying to help my Aunt stretch her funds as long as possible before a switch to a Medicaid funded place is necessary. I don’t want to skimp on the facility to save a few bucks. She is moving into a private room on 6/30. In six months or so, if she has adjusted well or made a friend, we may move her into a two person room to buy her more time in this place. My aunt never worked and lived on inheritance so there is no SS to offset the cost. She also pays Medicare $805 a month bc she never paid in. This post is just out of curiosity. Thanks.
Mom paid extra for in house doctor visits, medicine, snacks, toiletries, clothing, incontinence supplies, telephone
At the national Memory Care AL I worked at, the rates were similar but up to $1K per month higher; the rooms were nicer/bigger though.
For this one gets crappy food, meds dispensed, laundry svc, room cleaned, and a person available to call 911 at night in the event of a fall or injury.
Plus they are locked in.
BTW we are in NJ and Memory Care facilities run roughly between $9000-$10000 a month. It is a lot of money however when we crunched numbers where we would have 24/7 care living in her own home, the care alone cost her $13000 a month PLUS you add all her expenses on top of that.....taxes, utilities, food, etc....so the sticker price was shocking but we really sat down and crunched numbers.....
It is outrageous!
The best answer as to what care costs are in your area is to investigate facilities in your area one at a time, everything from nursing home to Board and Care to ALF to MC, and be certain to ask about all expenses involved, as level I care is every so much cheaper than level IV and they often don't explain that.
be level 2 but of course I can’t really say. We toured all of them in the area. I was just curious if this is how it works other places too.
