When I had my son I had got family planning medicaid. I got accepted today for full medicaid. I finally for accepted for full coverage but I already have had family planning medicaid for 4 years. What do I do about the family planning Medicaid? I just got my acceptance letter for the full coverage today and of course a new card will be sent so what should I do about my old one? Do I call and cancel it? If so where do I call? Sorry I'm just not for sure how to go about it. The old one I had applied at the local office but when I was accepted for full coverage it was submitted online. Can someone please just tell me what my next step should be. I really appreciate it.
If your son is now at school age, he will get his own CHIP coverage and you get your own coverage. CHIP is Medicaid for kids. So if at his school, the dental van comes by, he can go and get preventive services but he needs his card to do so. A lot of low income areas have health centers that do outreach at the schools, so the kids need to have their own CHIP details on file to get services but mom doesn't need to be there with their card anymore. Understand?
You want to clearly find out how much income you can make before it becomes an issue for Medicaid. Often for those low-income, getting a higher paying job is not a good thing as they now have to private pay for health insurance. You are making more $ but if it actually costs you more to get insurance, it's not financially worth the higher paying job unless it is HUGE amount more income. Obamacare or ACA is designed to take care of that issue. But if your in a state that did not sign up for Medicaid expansion for Obamacare, it's a problem.
Be on the lookout for CHIP fairs in your city too. These are usually worthwhile to go to as lots of food companies or boards do outreach at them. Like they give out "BOGO" coupons for soups, eggs, cereals, dairy items, specific fresh veggies usually in conjunction with a larger grocery store group. Good luck.
