Quick question. My brother is the DPOA of my 91 year old father with dementia. He is withholding any medical information from me and my sister, but, what is considered medical information...other than the obvious? Can I ask if he has eaten, or been sleeping at night, or if he has had any fluids? I just want him to be comfortable.
If he agrees, ask one of the staff for the form. Let them witness it, it will be on file and then you can call the hospital directly.
As to your brother's withholding information, is there some reason why he's doing this? What does he say when he ask him? Perhaps you need to be very forceful in confronting him.
You can also ask your father if he'll sign a HIPAA form for the facility when he returns there.
POA is for when the person can't make their own medically decisions. It's not to be used as a power trip..
