This morning he wanted to give back one tablet. He wants to make sure why het takes the medication...ask me quite frequantly about each one of them and like this morning gives back a certain table and says he does not need it.....how do I handle that!!
My dad did the same thing. I tried a variety of things and found a couple of things that worked well. The first thing was that I put the pills on his placemat next to his juice before he came to the table--and he took them with no questions asked! The other thing I did was talk to the pharmacist and his doc about getting some of the medications in liquid form and crushing others to put in his food. I was able to get most of his meds this way and would then mix them with sugar and put them in his juice or tea. I always did this before he came to the table, otherwise he would ask a million questions. As his dementia increased, he became more paranoid about some things, including being fixated on people "playing games" with him as he called it, and this made him very suspicious about taking medicine.
Hope this helps!
