My mom is way too high needs for day care, but I wish there was something for her to stimulate her mind and provide a social outlet. It would be great if she could be fed her meals and allowed to nap most of the day but still be able to take part in any activities. And having access to the big soaker tub and the hair salon and other services would be wonderful too.
And then when she would be getting picked up in the afternoon all the families with a loved one with sundowners could be getting them dropped off for the night.
I know, dream on.

Find Care & Housing
cwillie, that sounds like a great idea.... maybe in the future it will happen if someone could figure out the complex logistics.

We have overnight and weekend daycare for kids, why should it be harder for adults? People are always telling us that elder care is just like child care.... ;P

Yay! Great minds think alike, Cwillie. My neice takes her daughter to a toddler drop off. That is a bit different than pre-school or daily child care. I like the DROP-OFf aspect of the plan.
1) they don't live there. 2) they don't go at a pre-arranged schedule or all the time. 3) they go at your convenience, and when you can afford it.

Someone is about to make a million on this idea.

We could call it ELDER DROP-Off. Or something nicer.

Figuring out the complex logistics: 24 hour on-site nurse (R.N.)
PRE-paid Membership required, funded by medicare re-imbursement.?
"The Club."
Hospital beds for naps.
Patients will be administered their own meds by R.N. , brought in with them. Required to be individually pre-packaged and individually labeled by pharmacy.
Rx, New service I heard about.
Mininmum stay 2 hours. Can be overnight, like a hotel?
"The Best Exotic Eldercare Hotel"
Fees are 1) a minimum price, 2) extra for use of bedroom, private or dormitory for napping. 3) extra for meals, snacks and hors d'ouvres are free.
A personally assigned caregiver. Plan A Cannot be left alone. Plan B Caregiver supervises maximum of 3 clients.
What else?

What is the plan for caregivers who do not return to pick up their family member?

Is a person with a DNR allowed?

It sounds like an exotic quick solution to respite care. What about a person on hospice? What is the plan?

Can THE CLUB take elders out on casino trips or museum outings for a fee?

Cleaning is would next on the list. After the day-timers leaves, and crew needs to come in to quickly clean.... put on all new bedding, cleaning the bathrooms, etc.... then when the night-timers leave, the crew quickly needs to change the bedding again, clean the bathrooms, etc.

RCFE licenced. Membership fees go towards insurance and legal costs.
Restaurant next door, delivers to guests. This solves the food service issues, because chef could not plan ahead for a drop-in crowd.

FF, yes, again with the hotel idea for a cleaning crew. Good planning, cleaning is paramount.

How about delivering them home in a limo?

Wouldn't it be more fun just for caregivers to go and get a jacuzzi? Lol.

I want to drop-in to the new nursing home until my broken bones heal.
Thanks CWillie for this excellent thread. I really needed something to take my mind off the pain and being so useless.

Where are our legal beagles and the expert nurses? Check-in please.

Then, there are the financial experts, and investment experts.

Then this project and design should be put into 'Open Source', or 'Creative Commons' so the idea can be shared freely and improved by others. What do you think, Cwillie?

LOL. I think I will probably never see it happen. Well, maybe as a client?

I think everyone else is either sitting down to a turkey dinner right about now or sleeping off the after effects :)

Have you tried any of the topical creams for your pain? When I broke my ankle many moons ago I thought myoflex was very good, and my mom likes it for her arthritis too.

Topical creams, yes! Maxfreeze is my favorite spray, and now in a roll-on with extra Arnica.
My favorite (does very little, but is good) because the name makes me laugh:
Two Old Goats lotion. There are many more that I have.
Guess the best for pain is the essential oil, deep blue by doterra. Must be applied more frequently, q. 2 hours. Works.
For me, if I am distracted by the t.v., the pain is less. But remembering to move is key to getting better.

This drop-in Nh may happen, but someone else should steal the idea. We are retired.

One would need investors with deep pockets. New construction depending on location and the size of the building could be in the double digit millions. Lot of red tape to overcome. Zoning issues. Designs. Permits. Licenses.

Or if one is lucky enough to find an already free standing building that could be easily converted to a small motel or dorm situation, heating and A/C hookups plus plumbing. Again zoning issues, permits, licenses.

It never hurts to dream, unless it becomes a nightmare.

Or, many small investors. An interested baby boomer population concerned about their own parents, or themselves.
A pre-existing hotel/motel with several great rooms (community activities), a kitchen, maybe one floor, a spread out resort in the desert, or nearer towns that have a huge population of retired persons.

When the donald loses the election, he might want to invest. Doesn't he own hotels already? He could do another serta/sheep commercial about hotel bedding. He could play the elderly red-faced alcoholic with dementia, needing a night at the caregiver spa.

I volunteer to be the first drop-in. Just don't drop me on my head.

There are investors out there, it's just finding them. Commercial lending banks are a good start for networking to get the idea floating around.... hey, I saw some raw land out on Route #66, looks like a good location for a day/night elder reprise, do you know of any investors who would like to go in that direction?

I am in commercial real estate and one of our clients are investors who bought some raw land last year, now they are throwing around an idea of a hotel.... I mentioned the need for more rehab/nursing homes, and that was a light bulb moment for them.... we recently had a meeting with the CEO and COO of a company that builds and operates such facilities. The demographics are good as the facility where my Mom resides has a waiting list. Hope this is a good match.

Pre-existing hotel/motels sounds like a good idea, but are very hard to find. Most are priced in the multi-millions. Rarely do you see a For Sale in front of a Holiday Inn Express. These are sold behind the scenes. Go to the internet and type in LoopNet Hotels to get price ideas. Hey, even a nice B&B might work if it has enough bedrooms.

We would be taking good care of our friends.
Why are you worried about your head, Gershun?
With incompetence, we could just as well drop you on your azz.
Maybe the spa should only take in the self-ambulatory, but that won't work.
Where are the experts in insurance???? We would have to hire only the best caregivers. But accidents do happen, so hike up the insurance coverage, and only allow specialists to transport the client.
What is wrong with your head, again?

Darn, all our profits went to the insurance company, how unusual is that? Lol.
Guess we could apply for a chapter 13, and restructure the business.

Excellent thoughts, FF. Can we make it a non-profit organization?
A far out resort, or a close-in near stores, shopping would be the choices.
Can it be near in-n-out?
I am liking the Rt. 66 resort idea, but would like to kick it up to a four-five star place without the price.

Multi-millions, yes, dream big, then pare it down if on a small budget.
I once had a similar idea in which someone with the investor contact offered to help bring it to fruition, but the idea was for a smaller, boarding home type estate for special needs housing, and people have done that. My feelings with the special needs persons is to keep them in homes, not an institution.

For a drop-in Spa for the elderly, maybe a block of smaller homes would work instead of a hotel.

For staff, we could form a co-op of volunteer caregivers, in exchange for free respite for their loved one. Hmmmn, a burnt out caregiver, taking on three instead of one? What is wrong with that picture? Hmmmmmmmn.
Nonetheless, volunteers will be needed.

Guess we will have to change the terminology and leave out the words 'drop-in'.
See, that is why we need everyone's input, to clarify everything before we make a big mistake.
The Senior Napping Spa?
Ok, what do we call it?

I did not do that, the auto-correct as a function of the text input interface caused the post to be duplicated. Even if my husband is wrong, or used the wrong words, doesn't it sound like a good explanation? Ha, ha, he now denies that hadxanything to do with it. I deny tgat those are even valid words he made up.

Oops, guess there isn't going to be a baby boomer population either, so that's out.
