Mom has uit lately about 2 times in the last 3 momths ,she is not incontient, but she does wearDepends pull ups never soils them.
Several years ago she was having renal problems not voiding at all we saw a specialist in that area she wore a cath for at least 5momths until she was able to void in her own.Now she is well hydrates for a woman of 92yrs 40/50 ozs of fluid a day no caffiene products very little medication Plavix ,Lovastatin,Hydrothorizide and the rest vitiams I'm confused where do I go from here
Do NOT dose with cranberry ANYTHING if your mom is on Warfarin/Coumadin without checking with your doctor first. It interferes greatly with the action of that blood-thinner and will likely really mess up her INR and she'll run a much greater risk of bleeding. If they give the okay, it's likely that they'll want to monitor her INR much more closely for a while.
Also, as I understand it, both cranberry and D-Mannose are effective only against the e. coli organism - which DOES account for the majority of UTIs. My mom hasn't had an e. coli UTI for almost a year. Every other one she's had, it's been a different organism, and neither cranberry nor D-Mannose would have been effective.
Anyone else had their love one on this kind of antibiotic n did they take them longer than 3 days? I also have to take her to get a barium x ray on the 8th too n I would like to get this cleared up as much as possible before that test. Help, stressing n venting... ; 0
We now worry that if she doesnt get enough baths that it could come back, so I have hired a prof. caregiver / bather to come to the house to give her a bath often to try to avoid this happening again. she has alot of problems going to the bathroom, or more specically, she has diareaa and such quite a bit, so we think that issue along with trying to keep herself clean could contribute to the problem.
My mom never complained to anyone of having pain related to the infection, so I suggest we all be very aware of this possibility. her seizure was quite bad and I suspect that if they had not detected the infection soon enough it could have taken her life. We were really lucky and had my entire church praying for her the day they took her to the hospital, along with all my family. We believe it was by Gods Mercy that they did not give her the stroke meds cause it looked just like one to the doctors at first. Whether you believe in God or not, I suggest we all pray to him each day to give us strength, patience, and the love and understanding we need to deal with these issues. I would like to say that whether you know God or not, he loves everyone in this world the same, whether you know him or love him, or dislike him. Its his promise to us that he loves us all equally, and I find comfort in that for myself and for people who do not know or care to know who he is.
Best regards,'
DT
This is can increase good bacteria in her/his body so that the frequency can be reduced
applied Evalon cream (Vaginal cream) every alternative days. It got stopped her UTI problem but she started getting white discharge .... After discontinuing Evalon cream it stoped... Why can't you try this one ???
We tried putting up reminders, she took them down. We bought a pitcher to keep in the fridge, she can't remember what it's for. She isn't incontinent, but does wear pads for leakage.
Does anyone have any advice?
If you look on this site for other discussions (in the daily care section) about getting elderly family members to drink more fluids, you'll see lots of good ideas and answers. Just search for "drink more" or "more fluids" and you'll see lots of threads. Good luck!!
The exact same thing happened to my mother. I found out after she was discharged from the hospital that she had a UTI for almost 6 months based on her behavior. I spoke to her primary care DR about the change in mental status during the six months and nothing was done until I rushed her to the hospital. The hospital DR wanted to put her on lantis and humalog and spent 8 days rising and crashing her diabetes numbers. I advised them that her recent weight loss removed the need for medicine and they ignored me. Her diabetes was managed with diet until she had the UTI. She is better now but it is a dally challenge getting her to exercise stand or walk.
I am relieved to know that she is not alone in having trouble walking after a UTI.
