The same home we have been had for 50 years...I work full time, am married with a 11 year old son. Is there any benefits we could be getting to help pay for ie. higher fuel bills extra groceries etc??? My father is one of the best in the world and I have always told him after my mom passed away that I will never put him into a nursing home, I have been told there is financial help for us...thanks for your time and I would appreciate some info on this matter.
In Michigan there's an Elder Law of Michigan program which not only provides limited free legal advice to income qualified seniors, but it's a gateway to other programs such as CAFE (Coordinated Access to Food for the Elderly).
The Services section gives you an idea what kind of information is available: http://www.elderlawofmi.org/#!micafe/c13zs.
This would be what you're looking for in your state, or something comparable.
2. Your local senior center might also have lists available of sources that might help.
3. United Way hotline, 211, sometimes also has similar information.
It is expensive and it gets worse, as the person needs more care. Does he have the assets to pay you? We always advise on this board - do not give up your job. Good luck to you.
Here is an excellent article about "I promised my parents I'd never put them in a nursing home". https://www.agingcare.com/articles/I-promised-my-parents-I-d-never-put-them-in-a-nursing-home-133904.htm
(You don't have to be a member of a particular church to be eligible for assistance. Churches just have the best information.)
If this is your dad's home, your post makes me very sad.
