85 year old MIL prescribed. My hubby just called concerned that his mother started a prescription for Fosamax (aledronate) two weeks ago. Since then her right leg has started hurting and he saw her stumble. He recalled that my own mom had a very bad reaction to Fosamax, was hospitalized and was taken off it after only two weeks. I see no reason to put these senior seniors on this medication at this stage of life. I will go to her next appointment.
Boy oh boy, between my mother (resides with us) and my MIL our vacation was anything, but a vacation. I am tired.
My Mom, on the other hand, takes the heavy dose over the counter calcium pills, drinks three glasses a milk a day, eats cottage cheese and ice cream, daily yogurt, and puts shredded cheese on a lot of things. Knock on wood, she's 97 and never has broken a bone, yet she hasn't fallen that I know of.
