The entire system in the U.S. is designed to extract as much $$$ as possible from the elderly before they die while basically torturing them to death.
Is it the same in other countries? If not, please share your personal experiences with how elder care is better or worse than in the U.S.

As to LTC for the aging, this is a great question, and would take a book to answer.
I don't know any Forums that are the best place to answer such questions, or I would be on them.
I DO think that here as in other countries it is a matter of follow the money. That is the more of it you have at ANY age, the better care you get. That's true here. And in the UK you DO at least get decent care in NHS, but much better if you have the money to pay for it.
I do think that the internet is your friend for this sort of research.
Sure wish you luck in your search and hope some here have input for you. cwillie is on the ground in Canada and Margaret McKen is Australia. We have also members from the UK. Hope some find your question and have input, though comparison is probably not the best as we live where we live; that's the system we use and are used to and have praise or complaints about. I think few givers have time to do a whole lot of research on other countries.

My San Francisco area costs easily twice what my brother's Palm Spring CA care cost. This was 2020, but then, the LOVELY Pacifica Senior Living in Palm Springs was two rooms (he chose two; most were one room and bathroom) for just under 5,000.00 with his meals, transportation to shopping centers twice a week, to medical on Thursdays, and it was lovely grounds and rooms. They gave marvelous care. Now if you cared to update what that would cost today just call that company in Palm Springs and ask what a corner two room unit in the cottages goes for with level ONE care (self caring pretty much). They would be glad to answer. Five years a lot of water under the bridge. Covid and so on. Inflation, so I really have no idea at all.
That in San Francisco would run likely 10,000 if you were LUCKY to find two rooms. At that time.
You are asking a question that the majority of us can't answer because we are in the US. We have different levels of care, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Longterm care, cost different for each. Cost varies by State and within States where we live. Near or in a city much more than out in the Country.
Our health system is much different than Canada's and Europe.
