I just purchased a chair online when this question occurred to me. I do have Medicaid's required form to be filled out by my doctor. I just have not made an appointment yet. I would hate to have to return the chair just to buy it again later after Medicaid approves it. I am certain they would approve it.

From my understanding in speaking with varioius social workers and reading, it is best to get the script from your doctor and then go through the process of getting your loved one qualified (lots of red tape) before you purchase. I also found many local suppliers were not offering that part of service because they say it is a pain even with doctor script.

So I started saving but hospice donated my loved one a lift chair.

Hope this helps some!

Anytime you want Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance to pay for anything, you need a doctors order. Then you need to make sure these insurances will cover it. And if they do, there maybe restrictions.

I suggest you try and cancel this chair. Then do what you need to to get an insurance to pay or partially pay for the chair.

The thing is, Medicaid may require you to get the chair through a certain DME supplier. And they won’t just pay for something simply because a doctor wrote a script. So you may have to return the chair or pay for it out of pocket.

That is true. May have contracts with certain suppliers.
