Find Care & Housing
There are programs available. When my mom was released from the hospital and we were able to bring her home we contacted the State's Aging Services Division. The regulations are probably about the same in each state. You have to meet with a social worker from the agency and then they come out and access the situation. In our case, once approved which can take several months, they approved a home health agency. The home health agency hired me as a Personal Care Assistant. I had to fill out forms weekly in order to get paid. You're not going to make a great deal of money, but it helps. In my case I had quit my corporate job to take care of my mom. I was approved for 25 hours a week. Even though I did more it was something. Don't get discouraged if they put you on a waiting list or tell you it will be 90 days or more before you can get an appointment. Advocate for your mom and her care, you may get bumped up as a higher priority. There are other services they can offer you as well such as the Meals On Wheels program, some light housekeeping, etc.

Yes, please go to your state Web site and find their aging services. That is the best source for local help.

I would like to thank both of you for answering a question that I have had for a while. We have been sending her to daycare for about five years and she seems to be getting worse. I worry that she may do something to someone and they may not be able to control themselves and hurt her. I will have to think about quitting my job and staying home with her if she continues to get worse
