I just researched VA benefits for a friend. I went thru the resourses available for my Mom. First thing you should do is research your state and county for applying for any available resources avaiable to her. I called a nearby Veterans hospital / home and spoke directly to social services, social worker,in a few days I recieved an application for my friends who have mom and dad with dementia. I found out this is best route financially, for both parents benefits are best at vet home as long as the vet served at least one day during war time. Research as much as you can online as well but what I found most effective was go directly to sourse for info ask questions pertaining to her situation. Paper work needs to be in order it may be a pain in the rear but it is worth it. Let us know how it is going or if u need help. GoodLuck and Mom is lucky to have you.

On the VA website you can ask eligibility issues. You will need your father's service dates (prior to common rumor he did not have to be in combat for WWII benefits). I was cleaning up my mom's paperwork and found my dad's discharge. It listed WWII service medal, which surprised me because of where he was stationed. Anyway the WWII benefit dates fall out side the war, more or less. So my mom will qualify. As I understand it there is no look back on assests but there is a review of present finances. One concern is that often is an elder recieves VA and Social Security it puts them over the limit for Medicaid benefits. I am still not sure what to think about that. Also there are agencies that will help you with the paperwork. Call a few home care agencies and see if anyone in your area does this. Good Luck!
