How do you work full time and take care of your spouse at the same time? He had a stroke at the age of 59 but recovered most of his faculties. In March, at the age of 75 he was diagnosed with dementia and it is progressing rapidly. He is very combative, accusatory, mean at times and then other times is the man i have been married to for nearly 38 years. Trying to find a support group to attend but they are only daytime where I live and I work full time. It is getting to the point that I am not going to be able to leave him alone much longer but due to circumstances over the past few years am financially not able to quit my job and stay home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked into Adult Day Health centers? Usually they include transportation and a hot meal at midday. That allows you to work, knowing that he is in a safe and caring environment. It gives him different adults to interact with, and something to do with his time while you work.

Keep trying to find a support group that meets in the evening. That can very helpful to the caregiver.

Is your husband under the care of a dementia specialist? That, too, can be very helpful.
