Mom's Memory care facility was found liable for a death and lost license. She is in Canterbury Gardens Memory care facility in Longview, Wa. Early in Dec. a resident was found dead out in their courtyard at 1:15 A. M. The state of WA has revoked their liscense and they have 25 days to show proof that it should be reinstated.

The woman died of hypothermia. A bed check at 11 showed her present but no midnight one was performed as is suppose to be. Also alarms on door were either non-existent or not working. It is a common courtyard they are free to go into. State law does not require it be alarmed.

we have had Mom there for 8 months and she is beginning to feel comfortable there. I hate to move her but.......
We have always been happy with her care but this situation has us concerned. Also not sure what happens if their license is not reinstated after the 25 or 28 days. Anyone have experience with this sort of situation.

Is there a way for me to check if the facility has had any other citations by the state of WA in the past. I don't seem to be finding any info on checking on-line. Anyone in the state of WA who knows who to call or where to check.

The state is looking for input from other residences. If your mom is happy and well cared for, say so in a statement. If you have seen neglect or abuse, and you reported it but the facility failed to make changes, report that too. IF the facility closes, you will have to beat the crowd to the next place. There will be a sudden shortage of available beds.
