Your loved one may not require home care or assisted living services at this time. However, continue to monitor their condition for changes and consider occasional in-home care services for help as needed.

Share a few details and we will match you to trusted home care in your area:
First step is to learn all the rules for your area do not call the maine medicaide phone number the people who answer the phone may not be well trained-the best is to go to an elder lawyer in your area he will listen to what your are dealing with in your case and will be able to advise you -you should be able to pay for this with her money because you are helping her with the application-it is very lengthly and confusing if you can get a social worker to help you that is the best if not have the lawyer help you-you do not want to make any mistakes. They will ask you for the last 3 years of her bank accounts-my bank got those for me-I had to give them about a week to get them and they did not charge me for them-you will have to make an appointment with your local social service who will mail you the application-my husband was in rehab at the time and his insurance was about to run out so the social worker made him medicaide pending social service will tell you after the paperwork is done and reviewed if she qualifies if according to their standards you will or she will have to spend down which means she will have to pay for the nursing home bed or home care out of her assests until she reaches the amount of money they decide based on their rules and then medicaide will pay fpr her care. Now as far as help at home the medicare agency may tell you that once she is on medicaide she will get lots of home care because they are told to push for medicaide but if the agency does not have the staff you do not get the home care they promise. You will have to produce a mountain of information for example if she has investments they will need that information which is not easy to get I broke down into tears with the social worker because it was too much for me and the husband would not help me at all because he wanted to stay at home with me killing myself caring for him-the social worker or the lawyer can get all this information for you with ease so it is better to let them do it-any large withdrawels from her accounts in my case it was over 2000.00 dollars even if it was to pay property taxes had to be explained and proved that she was not giving money away to get on medicaide their thoughts are that everyone is trying to cheat-so they make it very hard for you that is why you need a lawyer or social worker to help you-my lawyer charged me for 5 hours which means it could be done in a lot less time and I worked 3 weeks myself going crazy-then my husband had a medicial condition that got worse and he died-social service still pushed me to apply for medicaide but was advised by a person in a different county not to fall for that so I called social service again and said I was not going to keep the appointment.
Every area is different, so I would also advise an attorney that deals in elder law. I did this for both my parents and wish that I would have done it sooner. I am in the process of applying for medicaid for both of them and the attorney and the adult day care I am hoping to get them in are assisting me. It is a lot of paperwork and I even thought of giving up. I actually applied online and the online application did not feel as daunting as the actual paper application. I searched public assistance and found the web site. When applying online it will check the application right away and let you know if you qualify and also if you missed anything. After the application is submitted they give you a list of documents that they need copies of and give you so long to get them sent in. Even if you are looking at medicaid down the road start the application now to get your Mom prequalified. In my case each parent is allowed $8000.00 in the bank and anything over $1000.00 spent in the past 3 years must be explained. The hardest part of applying is just getting started. Good Luck and keep coming back here to let us know how you are doing.
Ijust found out something that would help also if you go to the expert's bio at the end you can ask them questions. Bonnie gave good advice in my state when I was doing it about 1 and 1/2 years ago it was anything over $2000.00 had to beplained so the states all have their own rules and an elder lawyer in your area is the best way to go and not try to do it yourself.
