My 91 year old mother needs daily help with houskeeping, cooking and personal care. She has a lady that "cleans" house for her, 2 hrs. every week. She thinks she only needs her every other week. I try to visit her at least once a week. I would like to only be responsible for her "office work" and getting groceries and just enjoying visiting with her. At 70, myself, I don't do well to take care of my own housekeeping and don't want to come into her house and feel like I have to spend my time with her doing cleaning. The problem is, although she is well able to afford help, she doesn't want to pay for it and insists she doesn't need it. She has spinal stenosis and and severe arthritis in one hip and is barely able to use a walker but want to walk as much as possible to keep the circulation in her legs going. She also wants to live in her own house as long as possible and has a "life alert" service.
