Its 13,000 then NH called 6000 2 mos delayed app. Yes this amounts to around 30,000 owed after the death of my dad who never had a credit card, retirement, insurance etc. so my comment here is why apply for Medicaid???? It's a loan until you die...so its 7 thousand per mo after.
Dividing the 4 1/2 mos for Dad in this facilty….not the best...I should have kept Dad home and his $1850.00 per month for caretakers coming in. But after sudden death of his caretaker's son I was in shock.
All the wasted time applying for Medicaid with social workers due to my complete stupidity about the ten thousand in his account. Delaying the 2 months which comes to 6 or seven thousand anyway. Medicaid would have come after the money from their side. Yes you may increase the demise in the NH if you dont pay the bill on time, or need a sitter so all around lets say you need to have a CEO's salary here.
but firstly you should be told by Medicaid during the application process
that there may be recovery, this bill is small by the way but also when u enter the NH no mention that you will be on fullpay after the twenty day Medicare payment stops, so this is deceptive, unless you have a very good supplement that picks up the 100 days...……...applying for Medicaid is a futile...or the NH doesn't want to pick up the tab...this with my Dad paying 1850,00 per month...……..ok....why apply for Medicaid?....The Nursing Home should just let the client stay in and bill the estate recovery themselves...…also you need to hire a full time sitter after you get your
Dad in some of these places where he is very incapacitated...GLAD I WAS ABLE TO GO EVERY DAY FOR THE 41/2 MONTHS...I was not able to see that his demise was from a UTI..he went to hospital and died from toxic shock...………………….
Goodness knows Medicaid questions just make me hide under the desk and gibber, I don't begin to know the territory. Just wanted to send extra moral support for this horrible time. You're still raw from your loss, now you're expected to handle these demands.
Have you got a punchbag in the house? I'm not joking - something to take some tension out on might feel good. Take care of yourself.
where FEAR is the operative word here...do this and do that or all the while watching the NH so your Father doesn't go downhill, how about not paying people enough in the NH....this for 7,8,9 thousand per mo.also the food problem, I made smoothies for Dad for the last sixty days...he could not swallow or eat the food...a big mess...try to get homecare if u can...I thought I was giving Dad a gift by putting him out of harms way.
Medicaid started in May..Dad was admitted March and left the NH July 21.
Bottom line, I’m a little confused about the bills your getting...are you saying your dad never got into the “Medicaid Pending” status prior to passing?
Also that he had little or no ASSETS when you applied for Medicaid?
recovery off the table which was great, although I still owe for the first two months to NH..thankyou for all your assistance. I will see about the NH its confusing I was on full pay 161 after the twenty days, and yes pending.the first two mos are not covered I will see what to do.
Let me try to figure this out. Dad went into rehab? How long was he in?
If in rehab, then Medicare pays 100% the first 20 days. 50% from 21 to 100 days. My Mom had UH as her suppliment so her cost would have been 150 a day. That would be approximately 12k for 100 days. His 10k should have covered most of the 21 to 100 days. You have to spend down to under 2k before Medicaid will pay. But he received Medicaid, right? If there is no money, you will not owe Medicaid. You need to contact them and see what u need to provide them proof there is no estate. Now the NH is another thing. I would sit down with the NH and see why they feel Dad owes them. Maybe someone boobed and didn't inform Medicaid that services needed to start by a certain date when there is no money. You can't blame Medicaid, the error maybe on the NHs part. And if it is an error, the NH needs to correct it. Again, unless you signed something saying you were responsible for payment, the NH cannot recoup if there is no estate.
Hiding assests so the taxpayers can take care of your loved ones is illegal and immoral, we work hard so we have the means to take care of ourselves, not so there is an inheritance for anyone.
These programs are to help people that truly do not have anything, not for people that have hid their assests. I would rather see my tax dollars paying to jail them that do that.
