I have an appointment with his doctor next week and we'll likely try one of the meds again that helps with incontinence. Before he said they made him dizzy. But we need help with his depends fitting to at least cut down on the times a day he has to change everything!

Debbie, I am moving your question back to the front page to see if a caregiver has run into a similar problem.

I'm interested to see the suggestions on this issue. My dad has a hernia that is preventing him from urinating correctly (getting it all over the floor) and his Depends does not seem to work and he won't let anyone check him to see if they aren't fitting. He is also not changing them on a regular basis so they are getting soaked to full capacity and he is always leaking on himself, the carpet, his chair, etc. He is in assisted living and argues with the nurses about changing his briefs and showering.

Debbie,
Check out Abena Abri-Flex. My DH uses size M3 - he is 6 ft, 180 lbs. The have HUGE capacity (rated for 84 ounces) and have a snug fit. LOVE them, but can only purchase online. I don't work for them or profit in any way. Only a very satisfied customer.

I don’t use the pull-up briefs for my hubby because he has skin irritation issues and it was suggested the elastic made it worse. I started using the the ones with the Velcro tapes and had the same issues as you are having. I found incontinence pads at the drug store and they work great! I put them inside the adult diapers. I believe they are called Reassure.

A few dangers with incontinence is if Dad has any health issues and is prescribed water tablets, keep in mind they also drain nutrients such as potassium which could explain the dizziness. Have you checked with his insurance to see if they would pay for Depends? I give my Mother hard candy to suck on to cut down on fluids as meds can give dry mouth and contributes to wanting to drink fluids. Best of Luck. I set mom's cell alarm clock to ring every hour from 7 am to 7 pm. This is her cue to check herself. Urine is an enemy and really need to keep off as well as possible. Not humanly possible to have set times but it is possible he can check himself to where only the pull up is wet and not the whole bed, clothing etc. Best of luck to you.
