She broke one rib after a fall. She is 101 and refused to go to hospital but was seen and x-ray'd by her physician. I believe she needs some assistance (not necessarily nursing) until she feels better. She has Medicare and a supplemental plan for hospitalization. To my knowledge she has never been in assisted living or a rehab facility.

Does your Aunt's independent living facility offer Assisted Living options, meaning there is a menu of options she can use and still remain in her apartment?

If not, then call around the caregiving Agencies and see what they offer and at what price per hour. Maybe all your Aunt needs is someone to come by to help her bathe and get ready in the morning, fix her breakfast, do some laundry, and get her lunch. I assume your Aunt has her meal in the main dining room. Unfortunately Medicare will not cover the cost. But your Aunt might be able to detect the cost on her income taxes [check with a CPA first].

Where I live some assisted living places offer short term convalescent care for people like your aunt.
