Find Care & Housing
If you don't know who to call, go to www.aging.gov. You'll find your state services which will offer you a long list of places where you can get advice about local services. Likely, your Area Agency on Aging will be the place to start and you'll find them there. Good luck!

I would recommend calling an Elder Law Attorney if his legal affairs are not in order and an Aging Life Care professional to help you navigate placement in the proper level of care.

Look into group homes, they can be much better than a larger facility and more like family. And prices are easier to afford and start the process to get him care for the long term. Your employer should allow you family leave for this situation. Just take each step and get it taken care of. Involve a lawyer if there are POA and other issues.

Ferris, not everyone has the option to go part-time. Pters usually get no benefits. With people having children later, this is going to be a big problem in the future. Those turning 80 and had children at 35 will have children in there mid 50s. These children should give up a job that is supporting their families and effect their retirement future. My girls will be 52 and 44 when I'm 80 and I don't expect them to give up jobs to care for me.

That should be "not give up"

All will depend on his income. Check to see if he qualifies for Medicaid. He may be entitled to an aid. If he has money put aside, hiring a caregiver. Does "really sick" mean he is terminal. Since u work, home hospice may not be a choice because, like where I live, some one has to be with the patient 24/7. Some hospitals have a hospice areas. There r also Hospice Centers. Your Office of Aging maybe able to help u, too.

I need to know how old your father is, and what makes him unable to care for himself. Perhaps you could work part-time and take care of him like millions of others are doing. There are alternatives. I need more information please.

Hello,

If he can afford it try hiring some people to go stay with him at his home; I cared for an elder on weekends with a room as my payment instead of getting a salary! Elders do better in their own homes, but if that´s not a possibility for your family, ge him placed...don´t have any suggestions about where though...am not an American citizen.
Hugs & all the best
