Do you feel like you have to plan a shorter one than you would? I feel fortunate that I am able to get away sometimes, but I feel guilty.

Don't feel guilty! Go have a great stress free time. Stay as long as possible!

Remember, you have to take just as good care of yourself as well as your parent, probably better care of YOU!

Have fun! .... lucky you!

I understand completely! But take advantage of a long vacation if you can! Try not to think of you not being there, just relax and know your loved one is fine and you will be to :) Have fun

I just went on a trip for the first time in 3 years. I previously tried to have my siblings take over care for our mom, but they never could work it out with their schedules(?). I needed to take a trip for my husband, so this time I engaged the services of a care group and friend, along with my daughters. It was hard for me to not feel guilty, but I did it! All went well, the world didn't end and I'm ready the next get away..... My advice, make your plans, get good help, and relax! :)

I'm planning a trip to Florida with my son for either October, November or January. He is turning 17 next month. I love taking trips with him. I'd like to plan to go for at least 7 or 8 nights.

Don't feel guilty, go and unwind. I go away as much as possible. Fortunately, my sibling agreed to stay with mom since he wasn't working. I really enjoyed myself and didn't worry too much. It is good for YOU!
