My who is 78 was recently diagnosed with NPH. She was in the ER due to a UTI and blood clot. A scan of her brain showed NPH. We’ve had a follow up with the neurosurgeon who diagnosed it while she was hospitalized for the UTI and blood clot. He recommended a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. We have an appointment for a second opinion but both neurosurgeon specializes in back surgery. Has anyone had this procedure or knows someone who has? How did it go?
Has there been any suggestion from your neuro doc what would be an outcome of NOT doing this surgery? How complex it is? How often he has done it?
If you cannot talk a good long time with an MD about what all is involved here that would be a bad sign right there.
