I'm interested in useing care.com to find someone to help my mom, but I don't see a number anywhere where I can ask questions. Apparently you have to pay a monthly fee for access to their website, then pay the hourly fees for a caregiver, companion, pet sitter, what have you.
My question is, I'm assuming you have to pay for an entire year (website access) up front. If you don't like their website/services, can you get money back for all the months you don't use their website?
Any other comments about them, anyone has to share?
The best caregivers I hired had recently completed their CNA certification and were waiting for Nursing School to begin.
These were 2 of the best caregivers I had over the several years that I had caregivers.
If there is a local community College try there first.
You must be aware that hiring privately you have to follow proper procedures and pay taxes, do back ground checks and this does lead to a lot of paperwork. You also need to have at least 2 people so that if one is sick you have a back up. (I scheduled the 2 I hired with alternating days that worked into their schedules)
You can request that the person you hire do what you want them to do. It should be spelled out in a contract so they know your expectations.
Please remember that your mom is priority and the caregiver should not be charged with dog walking if mom needs someone with her at all times.
You may not have to pay for all the hours of service you need.
They may have programs that can help.
If mom or dad are Veterans the VA may have programs as well. contact your local Veterans Assistance Commission and ask. their services are FREE.
So far seems no one here has used them, but I hope some will come onto this thread who may have.
Some places I know, that I reached out to some few years ago when my brother was in need, had, unfortunately, minimums in that they wanted a guarantee of four hours a day three times a week. He didn't need that level of help. I don't recall care.com being around at that time.
If you use and like them I hope you will let us know and add to the general information available to this community.
