If you do get them on Medicaid, there may be other programs like COPES to pay for caregivers. Orcif only on Medicare, you may be able to get categiver coverage. You also may be able to get certified as a caregiver and get paid by the state for care you personally do.
Hello SueGood, What is Orcif? My mother is only on Medicare and, we need help with Caregiving Coverage. I googled it and nothing came up? I live in Texas
Do not confuse Medicare with Medicaid. Medicare is health care. Medicaid pays custodial or LTC care in a facility, not sure about coverage for home caregivers, when the individual's funds run out to pay for the care. In CA, it is called MediCal.
However, Medicaid for dual health care pays back Medicare Part B premiums to the eligible recipient in the residing State for very low income below the level of the poverty line. And the Medicare Advantage Plan must be on the Medicaid's list to qualify for assistance.
Cconsult an eldercare attorney and a Medicaid specialist for advice since complex rules vary for each state. Apply for Medicaid.
You have to apply. We are in Ohio and the drs put my mom in a nursing home. I had to get power of attorney to do all the work that needed to be done for her. It depends on there income in the state your in. If they are over the limit and still live at home they won’t give it to you at least in Ohio they would not. You just have to call your county services and make an apt to see what you need to bring in to see if they can help.
Please do not confuse...Medicare is the health care insurance and Medicaid is for limited in home custodial care but does not pay the home bills. Full time Medicaid is living in a nursing home
You need to apply for them or they need to apply. This is done at the State level, and can usually be done online. You can quickly check if they qualify by comparing your parent's income to the income levels assigned by their State.
You apply for Medicaid on their behalf if that's what they wish to do.
Be aware that there are differences between the qualifications for Community Medicaid (which is essentially health insurance) and Long Term Care Medicaid, which is what will pay for nursing home care.
If only ONE of your parents needs long term care, it is usually best to see an eldercare attorney before application.
Call your local Area Agency on Aging to find out how to apply.
