Hello. I am a live in caretaker for my 93 year old aunt and I can't leave her long enough to have a job. I can't just live off of her so how can I go about getting paid for even 10 hours a week for taking care of her? I just want to keep her healthy and happy but I need some income myself.

The majority of family caregivers are not paid unless the person cared for is able to pay them. That requires a caregiver contract.

If she is on Medicaid, you may be able to get paid by them. You will have to call your local Medicaid office and ask as regulations vary by state. Other than that, there are really no opportunities for family caregivers to be paid by an outside agency. You would have to make up a “Caregiver Agreement” with her detailing your duties and how much she could pay you out of her own money. And bear in mind that there is no health insurance or retirement fund.
