We care for my boyfriends brother who has no voice box, so therefore cannot call for us when he needs help. His quarters are of the other side of my boyfriends big house. In the last month we have found him on the floor five different times. We have a horn for him but it is not on him so when he falls it is to far for him to use. Is there anything we can put on his person that would alert us should he fall and have a feature he can summons us with when he needs us?
How old is he?
And why is he falling so much? Maybe he needs more help than you and your boyfriend can do.
Maybe a ring doorbell camera, so you can check on him periodically.
I am sure there are also ways for the tech savvy to hook up things so that he can readily reach you with a phone, with texting and etc. But that tech-savvy isn't my strong suit for sure.
Contact bro's doctor for some outreach number and guidance.
Call your local council on aging for some guidance.
And on the internet look into:
1. electronic augmentative and Alternative systems and AAC systems
2. SGDs or speech generating devices
Remember your internet is your friend in some of this:
Google Speech impaired assistive devices.
Ask your doctor, lastly, to connect a consult with your OT experts. Unlike PT which deals with physical therapy, OT is interested in Activities of Daily Life. They should have some ideas on assistive help.
Best of luck to you.
I surely do wish you the best of luck finding something that will help.
