Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. He has a fracture or you do. If you do, you won't be able to lift or shouldn't. Talk to your doctor. You can call your Social Service is and ask to talk to the Medicaid personnel. A person on SSI gets very little. Medicare and Medicaid are their medical. Not sure if u can get paid to help him. I would think twice before I become a caregiver if its going to be a 24/7 thing.
What state do you live in? Several states can now pay family members or friends to provide service if the person lives with you. The average reimbursement / stipend is $1000 a month, tax-free.
If you fractured your spine, I would tell you not to be taking care of your friend, get him professional help. I have problems with my lumbar region and any lifting is painful, and unless you get ablation, you will be in pain a lot. It sounds like your friend has osteoporosis (brittle bones) and will be subject to future fractures (as I have learned), so someone else needs to care for him.

If you have a bad back and he needs that much care maybe there is someone else to help or help you with, non lifting aspects..... you can check out this program....Cash and Counseling, also referred to as Consumer Direction Care Programs, allow people, that are Medicaid eligible, to hire whomever they want to provide their care and decide for themselves if they would rather hire a home care agency, or pay a friend or relative to do it. The services paid for by the state are part of the elder's authorized Medicaid care plan. This means that relatives, adult children, in-laws, or grandchildren could be hired and paid for the care they provide – spouses are excluded. In other words, family members could become paid caregivers. The money can also be used to purchase items related to their activities of daily living; a cleaning service, meal preparation, laundry service and transportation for medical appointments are also acceptable services. There are 4 different types of Cash and Counseling Programs, available in 49 states as of June 2015.
There is also another service in TX, CT, IN, LA, MA, RI, OH. Call your local Area Agency on Aging. Just make sure you are asking about a service where you live with the person and get paid a stipend to do it. You'll want the name of the company that runs the service and pays you. There are more and more companies doing it everyday and the states that have the service are increasing too, so it doesn't hurt to ask even if your state isn't on this list yet.
Was your friend in the hospital? I would think that he would go to a rehabilitation facility and/or have care at home if he is disabled. Is he home bound?
