My husband has had Alzheimer’s for about 3 year and has been declining pretty fast. My main complaint is the inconvenience, at night I put two pull-ups with extra pads and a shield and the bed pad still gets wet. Last night (and I think he does this before) I found that he had pulled the pull-ups down enough to get himself to the top and soaked himself and the pad. How can I keep the pull-ups up?

Find Care & Housing
They make "anti strip clothing" for this problem, you can find it from suppliers that sell adaptive clothing. There are also pull ups and briefs that are available which are much more absorbent than those commonly available from your local drug stores.

Thanks cwillie, the last few nights I have used paper tape across the front of his pull-ups and it seems to help. Don’t want to get the skin irritated though. What type of cleaner can I use that I can leave on and not worry about getting all the soap off?

Thank you cwillie, where can I find anti strip clothing? I have pull-ups that I purchased from a medical supply store. Depends work well for the daytime but not so good at night.

Hi Heartsick2.... I am not sure where you can find anti strip clothing, but you might ask the medical supply store. They may be able to tell you. The pull ups at the medical supply are more expensive than the over the counter brands, but are much better.

Could your husband be dreaming that he is in the bathroom going potty when in actuality he is still in the bed? My honey did this a couple of times after he had his strokes 13 years ago. Hang in there and please let us know what you find out.

Dusti22 I think my husband could very think he is in the bathroom. About 2 weeks ago I didn’t hear him getting out of bed until he was getting back in bed, I ask him if he had used the bathroom and he said yes. I ask him where and he said down the hall and I ask him to show me. He took me to the laundry room and pointed to the trash can. Well at least part of it made it in the trash can😐 Most of the time he can’t get up without help.

Molicare, tranquility, attends, wellness and tena overnights all perform significantly better than depends. There are also booster pads that can be used inside any brief or pull up - if you choose to use regular incontinence pads for this purpose then you need to slash the leakproof backing to allow excess urine to flow through to the next layer instead of leaking around the edges.
One piece jumpsuits with back zippers are available from adaptive clothing suppliers like buck & buck or silverts.

Heartsick...I had a feeling that might be the case. My honey doesn't do that now (or not to my knowledge) but it was a real mess back when he did. Not sure how to keep them doing that otherwise will end up in the bed or all over them. Please keep us posted.

Dusti22, I have started putting a strep of duct tape at the top of the waistband of his pull-ups just low enough not to be on his skin. It needs to be snug. That works pretty well. I have to cut them off, but he doesn’t seem to mind. Thanks for your reply.
