I'm hoping to get an idea on how daycare is done when the spouse works, the patient is not able to stay alone anymore but isn't ready for assisted or skilled nursing. I'm feeling frustrated almost like when my children were little and finding a place that can accommodate my work hours.

It is exactly like when kids were young. It can be very stressful finding the right solution. You have two choices as you did with your kids, bring someone in the home while you are at work or take hubby to daycare. If you call your local area agency on aging they can help you find day programs for him, however it may be easier to bring someone in to your home to care for him. The added benefit of having someone come in is they could help with dinner and do some laundry or light cleaning to help u out. Private caregivers work for many people as they will cost a bit less and you have the same person all the time. Others prefer to use an agency. I know how stressful it must be to hold down a job and care for someone, I do wish you the best and hope you find the right help to ease your load.

If the day care us a medical model, medicare or medicaid will pay some of it. At least that's how it works here in CT

You commit to a day or even five days a week and fees are on a sliding scale based on your income. Check with your county Office of the Aging for information.
