I had a wolf in sheeps clothing selling annuities (did I know?) so he was "charging" for the aid and attendance. When he finally ended our work and gave us the news, he said it would take about 4-5 months to get. At the last minute, we realized that a close friend actually works directly for the VA and submitted it for me. I didn't think to ask how long; I thought I knew that answer. Yesterday I emailed the VA guy and he said 12-16 months. Holy cow, now I have to figure out medicaid (not to mention my father wants to come home where he can drink his heart out). Staying on subject --- Dad is 91 and the VA rep did note that. When I questioned his answer, he said it was the official answer he was supposed to give, but he's seen it in 4. how long did aid and attendance take for those of you that do have it?
If you are in Alabama you may want to check out http://www.adss.alabama.gov/ (this is the website for the Alabama Department of Senior Services). This could help you find your local senior services agency. We live in a rural area and the local senior services office was able to secure an aide that allows me four hours each week respite as well as assisting with Mom's bath and light household chores. It may not sound like a lot but I absolutely love my four hours a week!
They can also assist you with Medicaid applications and, potentially, medicaid waivers, etc.
