She was in Boca Regional Hospital for shortness of breath and weakness. She did not need 24-hour medical attention. But, they couldn't send her home because there is nobody there to care for her, so, they dumped her in a mental hospital in Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health called and told me "she's just a sweet little old lady she doesn't belong here". We have no family there, and she has no friends left. They can't find anybody to take her because she doesn't need 24-hour Medical Care. They are trying to get rid of her, I am trying to set up a home nursing service for her, but they won't let me talk to her. I am 3,500 miles away and can't get there for my own health reasons. I can't arrange home services for her if they will not let me communicate with her. Is there anyone I can call to intervene on her behalf to get her out of that hospital? My main concern is they are going to try to dump her somewhere even worse. I apologize if I sound disjointed, I've been going through this for 19 days now. I feel helpless and am frustrated beyond tears.

I used Paradise Home Health, 561-672-7170. They specialize in home health caregivers but have been in the industry for a long time. They may be able to refer you to someone that can help.

You all have been so kind, and helpful. A " caseworker" met with her yesterday. (Not sure I trust that, but it's all I have to work with right now.) He is trying to get her into a short term nursing home. That will give me a little more time to see if I can find the help she needs to get her home. The biggest issue I'm running into with trying to find nursing services is, that when they find out she's in a "psych hospital", they don't even want to talk to me anymore. If I could get her out of that facility and have the case assessments conducted at the short-term living facility, I think it would help her chances a lot. I find it absolutely ludicrous, in this day and age, that this is still going on. (Dumping her in a "loony bin" because they want her bed and don't know what else to do with her.) I have another question about "long term health insurance" in a separate post.

Pretty sure the caseworker is working for the hospitals best interests, not my mothers. But, if it gets her out of there, it gives me a little more to work with, and buys me some time.

Emailed myself the comments to this thread, so I have resources to tap if I finally get her out of that hospital.

Thank you all, again, very much for taking the time to research and respond to this post. My heart is brimming with hope for the first time in more than 20 days. Maybe I will be able to sleep tonight!
