My mom had a stroke at home, went by ambulance to the ER and never recovered. She was sedated a Thrombectomy Procedure and then kept sedated another 24hrs to see how she does? Mom never recovered, she came home on Hospice and passed. I read all these stories of those older who have had a stroke and recovered? My Mom never responded, why? Just hoping to get some peace. Thank you
I'm so sorry you are struggling with confusion and grief. Death is difficult to accept when we love a parent so deeply. I hope you are able to accept that this was your mom's time to transition and allow yourself to heal in due time. Healing doesn't mean you forget; just that you are able to remember your beloved mom with joy and happiness. Wishing you peace and acceptance moving forward.
You ask in your profile if a thrombectomy (removing a clot from the brain) was a reasonable procedure to do on a 92 year old.
In the absence of clear instructions (a MOLST, POLST or DNR, or being on hospice--as indicated on a Medic bracelet or pendent) doctors will spring into action to save a life. The thrombectomy is the gold standard reponse to a stroke caused by a clot these days.
So yes, it was the expected response. I am so sorry that your mother's passing was painful to you and to her.
I know how devastating this can be, and I’m truly sorry for your loss. You have to understand that your mother was already at the end of her life. 92 is a dream for some that others never reach. It’s probable that due to her age, her body could not recover from the stroke. It also depends on where the stroke occurred, and how substantial the bleed was.
Take comfort in that she wasn’t fearful or in pain. My grandmother was in terrible agony and distress, begging for us to kill her. Feel blessed that you were both spared that.
