What Federal/State forms do I need to complete?
W2, W4, EIN, Unemployment Insurance? Never done this before....

I think a CPA can help you and maybe cheaper than a lawyer. Maybe for a small fee will do your payroll.

You may want to consider consulting with an elder law, corporate or tax attorney to see if there are other legal routes to being a non-profit employer. It would be worth the investment.

My dad had to get an EIN but the payroll
taxes were killer, we had to give up the paid help because he was paying their monthly salary and taxes AND another 1/3+ monthly as employer tax, The employer tax is ridiculous for situations like this where the employer isn’t a business and isn’t bringing in money,
Nothing like having to pay the government $500 a month for the right to have an employee take care of you. Good luck to you,

This is where hiring through an agency may make more sense. They also will provide subs at the last minute, and do background checks on their employees. They are ultimately legally and financially responsible for any problems with their employees, like theft, abuse, fraud, etc.

I certainly will keep you in the loop. My mother is in Arizona. I think I need an EIN as I am hiring the caregiver full time. Also need to pay into FICA and unemployment. So much to learn.

I am just starting to figure this out as well so want to follow this thread.

The care I just hired for mom is private and though she has a caregiver badge from my county - I believe I cannot have her as a 1099 (in my state which is Florida)? I am also looking into adding on workers comp as my mom lives in my home (but I believe that in FL you cannot get workers comp unless there are 4 or more employees).
Again I’m going to follow this thread as I am hoping to learn along with you.
