My 93 year old MIL with moderate dementia has lived with us for 3 years now. This week she became jaundiced, went to ER, and was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. She is being referred to hospice because she is terminal, but the doctor says she can live for several months, NOT YEARS... probably not even A year. Doc says though it is too soon for in patient hospice. We have to decide if we should bring her home or send her to a nursing facility that will work with hospice. She is afraid of being in a facility which is why she lives with us now. We kept my dad home as long as we could and then sent him to in patient hospice. Mom says if we pick home hospice, we won't be able to get her in an inpatient when the time comes. We want to help her, but we don't know if we can go all the way at home. Does anyone have much experience with this? We live in the USA in the state of GA. I am afraid if we put her in an SNF, there will be finger pointing on the responsibility between the SNF and the Hospice. Does anyone have experience with any of this?
