She's on Medicaid. She's in NH with dementia I'm allowed to pay the NH every month for Mom's copay from her checking acct, but I'm not to use it for anything else according to MassHealth. Surely that doesn't mean that I'm to pay any income tax due that she may owe? Tho I imagine the copays will negate any tax due? First time dealing with this. Anyone else?

If all her money goes to a Nursing Home, that is a deductible cost. I do not see any way she would owe taxes. DO NOT use her checking account for anything but the nursing home. Do what Mass Health tells you .

She's only been there since last August, so that's seven months at home and five months in the NH. I'll get everything together and give them a call on Monday. I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation.

How long has your mother been on Medicaid in the nursing home? If it has been a while, I would be surprised if any taxes were due. Almost all of her money will be going to her care. If MassHealth told you not to use the account for any other purpose, I would consult with them if any tax was due. I know everything is due Monday, so I hope there's a zero balance so you won't have to worry.
