My husband is at the stage where I now have applied for his placement in an extended care facility. I was advised to file for "involuntary separation" when this has taken place. Does that mean his govt. pension will then not transfer to me at his passing?

Who advised this? The only references i see when i Google this term involves military service and not marital law. I would question the person who gave you this advice about how it affects your pension rights.

No, the involuntary separation indicates you are separated due to health reasons and not divorcing. IF and only IF he took his pension with survivor's benefits, you get half of the pension when he dies. IF he did NOT select the option for survivor's benefits, then the pension ends at death.
