Hello. My father has dementia. He moves about with difficulty. Recently he even doesn't describe that he needs to go to bathroom well. I had to use diapers. But sometimes in the middle of the night he takes his penis out of diaper and wets everywhere else than his diaper. I'm frustrated. What am I to do? Any advice other than sleeping pills? It throws him off his little balance he has. Thanks.
There are garments that your father would not be able to get out of according to posts I’ve read here on the forum. It sounded like a toddlers onesie or jumpsuit that perhaps buttons or zips on the back making it difficult for him to get to the diaper. Check Amazon.
My husband used to do what I called "repositioning himself" so I had to deal with a lot of leaks!
There are adult "onsies" that you can try. It does make changing him a little more difficult.
I also tried the "rubber" or waterproof pants that go over the brief. (either tab type or pull up type)
Don't know if this would work for your dad or not but there are condom catheters that might help. At least the urine would be contained.
A real good absorbent under pad is crucial. A good one will absorb a LOT. The ones I got were very large, washable ones. Happened to find them on the Costco Website the manufacturer is Conni. they have absorbent underwear as well as pads.
I'm thinking of making a onsie myself, which would be easier for me open up and change him. Meanwhile I think I make him wear pants with a belt, so at least he makes some noise and I wake up before everything is wet again. lol Thanks.
