I have just been appointed the guardian of my mother by a Florida Probate Court, and I will be setting up a guardianhip checking account to pay her bills every month. My mom is living in the dementia unit of an assisted living facility and will need to go on Medicaid before the end of the year. I want to know how do I go about keeping only a $2000.00 minimum in this account, when her ALF care is more than $3000.00 a month? Right now we are paying for her care with what little money she has and her name is on the waiting list for Medicaid. Any pointers and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Moving, transferring funds should of been done before she was placed into a assisted living facility .Now the only thing she can do is hope and pray.Medcaid goes back 5 yrs.She can gift upto so much I think. What ever funds you spend of her's you are the feller Medicaid will be going after asking where it all went. You need to talk with a attorney to setup a trust.
