Hi,
Please share any tips on helping someone with mild dementia get dressed. Lately mom has been coming out of bedroom with two different shoes on. Does anyone clip shoes together or mark them in some unobtrusive way? Any tips on getting her to hang clothes up instead of just lay them in piles? Just starting out with this as we just lost Dad ( and I think the sadness of losing her husband of 61 years is adding a bit to the confusion). Thanks in advance for any tips.

Most people have way too many clothes, my tip would be to help her set out her clothes the night before and limit her access to the rest of her wardrobe. Limiting her wardrobe will make it easier to keep tack of soiled clothes so she doesn't begin to look unkempt (or smelly if/when she becomes incontinent).

Limit the choices she has in her closet.
3 pair of pants and 3 tops. All that will go with each other.
Place 1 pair of shoes in the closet along with a pair of slippers.
Limiting choices will keep her from getting so confused.
Limiting the number of items in the closet will also eliminate the piles of clothes. When she takes off one outfit it can go in the hamper, she does not have to hang it back up.
When you do laundry ask her to help you hang clothes on hangers, fold towels, sort socks and things like that. (My Husband would not put his soiled clothes in the hamper, he would fold them up and put them by his chair. I would take clean clothes and put them in the same place for him in the morning)
All I can say is pick your battles when figuring what is "important".
