My mother is 90 and lives alone at home. She is finally agreeing to let me find a medical alert system as my husband and I are going out of town. She has gotten wobbly, and I am thrilled she is finally willing. My biggest concern is that her cable/internet/landline go out at the slightest wind, so I am looking to find one that works without a landline.

To be perfectly honest with you, I found 911 to be faster. Also, if your mom has a hearing problem it can be difficult to hear the person who is speaking to them.
Like most things, it has its pros and cons.
My mom had Parkinson’s disease and her tremors made it difficult to hold it near her ear to hear without trembling. She wasn’t able to hear it well enough unless it was close to her ear.
I had to take her pendant and speak to the operator.
Do purchase a lockbox for outside of your home near the front door to place a key in it for the EMT personnel to enter your home because she may not be able to answer the door herself.
