The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Some doctors believe that magnesium could relieve incontinence because it reduces bladder muscle spasms and allows the bladder to empty completely. Vitamin D 600 IU's a day help keep the pelvic floor strong. Try to avoid caffeine because it is known to excite the brain, which has an excitatory effect on the bladder.But don't avoid your daily intake of fluids to avoid incontinence as your fluid intake is very important. We've had some luck with cranberries, which in natural health care is supposed to "promote urinary health." For most of her life, my daughter has used cranberry juice for frequent bladder infections. So, I started using cranberry tablets occasionally, when I feel that frequent urgency. I use them for a week and it resolves the problem. Then a couple of months ago, my husband started having to urinate immediately and not long after he had already gone. So, I gave him cranberry concentrate chews for about a week, and we haven't had an emergency bathroom stop since.
I'm not sure what it does, but think the urgency may be caused by bacteria, and the cranberry may make the bladder too acidic for the bacteria. Maybe as we get older, because of meds, or a combination of things bacteria builds up. Anyway it has worked in our situations, and it's cranberry (a food), so no harm to try?
My husband doesn't like pills so the concentrated chews work great. They are Nature Made brand and we get them at Walgreens.
For bowel incontinence, the doc said to make sure he eats lots of fiber (counterintuitive, huh?) ,caffeine, sugar substitutes and milk products. It helps a lot.
My poor Mom has tried everything. She had surgery which made things worse. She had an Interstem implant that helped some. Helping her last up to 4 hours at night. She had success with oxybutin, but it made her problems with her espophogus worse and she couldn't eat, she lost 30 pounds.

Just read my own post, lol- Doc said to AVOID caffeine,all milk products and all sugar substitutes for fecal incontinence . No perfect, but it is helping. Starts the day with Fiber one cereal banana and almond milk.
Yes, there is Vesicare for women and (you do not say which gender you are) and another drug for BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) which will relax the muscles, but my husband found it made him urinate more. Vesicare gives you a dry mouth, which will make you drink more, and then go more. Magnesium is good for constipation, and any of the caffeinated drinks will stimulate you to go more. Either go more often making sure you are not incontinent, wear a feminine/male pad for accidents, but by all means do not stop drinking water!
Hi I'm the one that originally posted. It is my 92 year old Dad. We have used cranberry fruit extract capsules recently. He had had a UTI problem that started in the fall and was hospitalized with it in January. It was the beginning of a downward spiral with his losing his independent (hospital stay where he was given mind altering drugs and then a waste of money and time rehab stay with more mind altering drugs). It's such a long story that I'm sure alot of you have been thru.
Check with your doctor as they should know about the problem and hopefully let you know if any meds currently being taken are causing the problems. I know magnesium is good for hearts regular beat but causes diarrhea, blood pressure meds cause you to urinate.
Have a urologist check him out. First to be sure the UTI is not still there and also to check the prostate. Those UTI's can be silent and cause a lot of problems and worse yet can cause a kidney infection. If the prostate is enlarged he might not be emptying the bladder completely and then it starts another UTI. Bad cycle. Cranberry just makes it harder for the bacteria to hold onto the walls of the bladder. We have just been going through this with FIL. At their age a kidney infection can be a huge problem. Be sure he is drinking enough water in the meantime, my FIL thought if he stopped drinking that if would help---it only makes it worse!
