Find Care & Housing
Well, mom can pay her whatever and however she wants as long as mom won't be on Medicaid. There are very strict rules about family caregivers. Medicaid looks back five years. Family care giving is considered a GIFT by Medicaid unless there is a formal personal services contract in place with specific responsibilities as well as a daily log of duties kept by daugher...mom has to pay Social Security on behalf of her daughter...daughter has to claim what she's paid on her income tax. If that doesn't happen, Medicaid will restrict mom's Medicaid payments by a certain number of months to reclaim all that money before they begin paying for mom's care.

It sucks. But that's the reality. Very unfair, in my opinion.

Up in the right hand corner use the search function and put in "getting paid." Also, read under Money and Legal. Then, see an elder care attorney and see what is available in your particular state.

I know for certain that your mother can pay you, but beyond that we always advise people not to quit their job and give up their own retirement, because you will need that for your own old age.

Please come back and tell us if you find a way to get paid. This is a very important and frequently asked question.
