Find Care & Housing
This was a topic on another thread. NHs don't have pharmacies on site. Unlike hospitals that do. The med has to be order thru an offsight pharmacy. It can take a day for delivery. More if not in stock and has to be orderedvthruva wholesaler, which is another day. First find out why the hold up. If the answer doesn't sound right to u, then try other channels.

Dear Anna,

I would talk to the care manager to escalate your concerns. If they are not taking you seriously I would escalate it further and call the state office that looks after nursing home or seniors.

Anna; I have sometimes found that what feels like an emergency to me actually isn't.

In this situation, I would contact the ombudsman and discuss the situation.

In the future, if loved one is being discharged from the hospital, if there are meds prescribed, ASK how soon the med needs to be started. Ask for a three day supply to cover the time until the NH will be able to get new med.

If the hospital balks at this, refuse to sign the discharge papers, as you now know it will take several days for the med to be ordered.
